Pauline E. (Brown) Butler Obituary
PAULINE E. (NEE BROWN) BUTLER Age 93, of Chardon, OH, passed away Oct. 26, 2015 at Mentor Woods Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mentor. Born Nov. 4, 1921 in Chagrin Falls, she had been a longtime area resident. Pauline's young life was filled with sorrow when at the age of 3, her mother died of TB and at the age of 9 her father perished in an automobile accident. She was raised by her grandmother and two uncles. She attended and graduated from Chagrin Falls schools in 1938. Pauline married the love of her life, Byron E. Butler Jr. from Troy, OH on May 31, 1940 at the age of 19 in Solon, OH. Together they had three children Byron James (Carol) Butler, Judith (Gerald) Fankboner of Concord and Thomas (Marian) of Riverside, CA; grandchildren Ronald James Gladen, Dona Marie Gladen, Daniel Lawrence Gladen, Jeff Demler John Butler, Steve (Anita) Butler and Mike Butler; and great-grandchildren Paige and Carly Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, oldest son Byron and grandson John Butler. Pauline worked as an aide at a mental health facility in Chagrin Falls, a potato chip factory in Troy (Southern Ohio), Chardon Rubber, the Plaza Restaurant, Bostwick's Department & Hardware Store and May Company. She attended secretarial school and after which worked at the Chardon Welfare Department (now Job and Family Services) until her retirement in 1981. From 1964 until his death in 2004, Pauline cared for Byron J. Butler, her quadriplegic son. After retirement, she volunteered at the Riverside Community Hospital in Riverside, CA. She won several awards for her outstanding service there as a "Pink Lady." She returned to Chardon in 1998. She will be remembered as a kind, caring and compassionate lady and will be missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm on Friday, Oct. 30, 2015 at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South ST., (On Rt. 44, 500' south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) Chardon, OH. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, Oct. 30, 2015 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Chardon Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements by the Burr Funeral Home of Chardon.
