Phillip Gene McFadin Obituary
PHILLIP GENE MCFADIN passed away in Riverside, CA on March 3, 2014 at the age of 74. Those who knew him knew his last days were very difficult. He would thank you all for your visits, communications, and kind thoughts. He is survived by his loving wife Camille, and was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Ava Lattimer McFadin, his sister Patricia and his brother Michael. Phil was a Senior Broadcast Engineer during his working career. He was the inventor of the DR-107 SMPTE time code reader and held a patent for his laser targeting system, but to say those were his only inventions would be an understatement because Phil was inventing something every waking, and sometimes sleeping, moment of his life. He engineered everything he did and he built everything to last forever. His best times were spent with his beloved 1/8 scale Southern Pacific #3030 steam locomotive and train, and with his countless friends at Riverside Live Steamers. He was a tireless volunteer at Hunter Park where he ran his train and he leaves behind a large family of train brothers and sisters. Old 3030 will keep running at Hunter Park, lovingly cared for by his "adopted" son and best friend, Brendon Hilton. Think of him when you see a big yellow van go by and remember his laughter, wisdom and generosity. Phil didn't want a memorial service. If you wish to honor him, please consider a donation to the Riverside Live Steamers in his name, and take a ride on his train.
