Phyllis Curry Faure Obituary
PHYLLIS CURRY FAURE
Age 90, of Riverside, CA, died quietly March 9, 2017 after a long illness.
Born Phyllis Darleen Aspegren, October 4, 1926 in Courtland, KS to Ivah Doxon and Lloyd Aspegren. An only child, she moved with her mother to Washington. She was a singer during the Big Band Era with dreams of going to New York as an entertainer. Moving to southern California she met her future husband, Monte J. Curry. Marrying in 1948, they relocated to New York City, compliments of the U.S. military. Setting aside her musical career, she gave birth to her only child.
In the 1950's, she moved back to California a young single mom, settling in Riverside where she resided for 64 years. Despite the challenges at the time for a single woman, she embarked with determination on a career in banking and escrow, becoming a well known, successful business woman. She was active in business and professional organizations. Her hobby was designing her own clothes and she was known for her stylish wardrobe. In 1977 she married Riverside businessman John E. Faure and continued her career until retiring after almost 30 years with Bank of America in downtown Riverside. In retirement, she and her husband enjoyed boating and auto racing. After her husband died in 1997, Phyllis maintained an independent lifestyle enjoying golf, gardening, music and her beloved dogs. She loved martinis and champagne, and was quick to dress up and go out with friends. Only ill-health slowed her down in her last few years.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter Monica Curry Florian and son-in-law Luis O. Florian of Rancho Mirage, CA.
A Celebration of Life is planned April 12, 2017. Contact Acheson & Graham Mortuary by April 3 for details.
