Raquel De Loera Corrales Obituary
RAQUEL DE LOERA CORRALES Passed away on May 3, 2013 in Riverside, California. Born on July 10, 1946, in Aguas Caliente, Mexico, she came to Los Angeles as a child, residing in Baldwin Park for most of her life. She became a successful business owner, starting out as a hair stylist and eventually rising to be the salon owner. She later owned 2 salons and a grocery store. As a business owner, she was always active in her community, running for city council, becoming a member of many service organizations such as Kiwanis club, The Women's Club, The Board of Trustees at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Baldwin Park, and the Baldwin Park Chamber of Commerce. She also taught a cosmetology class for two years at citrus college in Covina. Raquel managed to be a busy business owner and a community activist, while raising three sons as a single mother. After "retiring" in 2007, she relocated to Perris, California, where she became actively involved in her eldest sons's plumbing business. She tirelessly contributed her talents as a public relations manager, business promoter and networker. Raquel was certainly responsible for the increased success of NIR Plumbing, Inc. She also became involved with the Perris Chamber of Commerce, Menifee Chamber, The Women's Club, Friends of the Library, and Kiwanis Club. Her total combined membership in both the Baldwin Park and Perris Women's clubs exceeded forty years. For the last several years, Raquel was the Chairwoman for the Perris Women's Club, in charge of the annual Christmas and Veteran's Day parades. Raquel enjoyed going to family parties, was an avid reader of fiction, and loved to travel. Along with her many other achievements, in 2008 she even became an ordained minister. Despite her difficult, painful battle with diabetes, her strength, courage and resilience have been a lesson and inspiration to all of us. Even in death, she was dignified and strong. She was a staunch feminist and an eternal optimist her entire life. There was simply no one else like her. Raquel is survived by her husband, Luis Santana Corrales; sons Nick Lopez (Elisa), Juan Miguel Lopez, Rafael (Victoria) Lopez, and daughter Ruby Corrales. She is also survived by her mother, Herminia De Loera; brother Rogelio (Lupe) De Loera; sister Cecilia Sanchez (Javier); 9 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws and three step children. Predeceased by her father Rafael De Loera and brother Rafael De Loera Jr. Services and celebration of life to be announced at facebook "Raquel Corrales update".
