In Loving Memory
RAUL P. GARCIA
February 6, 1926 - February 7, 2017

RAUL P. GARCIA, celebrated his 91st birthday with loving family on Monday, February 6, 2017. He was so proud that he reached this milestone year in his long life and then passed away peacefully at home the following morning, February 7, 2017. Raul was born in Jerome, Arizona, on February 6, 1926, to Theresa and Merced Garcia and soon after, moved to Riverside, CA, becoming a lifelong resident along with his 6 brothers. At the age of 18, Raul joined the Army leaving his Casa Blanca home along with his friend Ysmael "Smiley" Villegas, who was later awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously. Raul often told stories of his WWII battles and losses, and of his time as a boxer in the service. Soon after being honorably discharged from the service, he met the love of his life, Lupe Martinez. He would often say how he and his brother, Frank Garcia, had stolen the most beautiful girls from Sanger, CA, Lupe and her sister Natalie. In the late 1940's, Raul worked at Food Machinery Corporation in Riverside, and then in the 1950's, he started a long career at Rohr Industries. Known to his co-workers as "Rudy", he was a painter and a foreman.
Raul is survived by four children all from Riverside: son Daniel Garcia and wife Tina; son David Garcia and wife Marsha; daughter Cecilia Jimenez; daughter Diana Pouesi and husband Paul; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Thomas Garcia; loving wife, Lupe Garcia; brothers Charles Garcia, Alfred Garcia, Frank Garcia, Robert Garcia, Refugio Garcia, and Manuel Garcia; and his parents Theresa and Merced Garcia. The Garcia family would like to thank care providers Beatriz (Betty) Gaeta and Luisa Espinoza for their loving care and service to our father in his last years (and for Betty's great food!).
Services will be held on Thursday, February 16th starting at Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary from 9AM-11:30AM for viewing and rosary; mass at 12PM at Queen of Angels Catholic Church; interment services at 2PM at Riverside National Cemetery; and celebration of life between 3PM-7PM held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) on Arlington Avenue.
