Raymond E. Ruiz Obituary
RAYMOND E. RUIZ Age 63, Retired Deputy Sheriff, Los Angeles County Sheriff Department, Retired Major, Army National Guard; passed in his sleep March 5, 2015 at his home under the care of his family and hospice. For the past 28 months he had battled pancreatic cancer. His years of service in the Army were from 1975 to 1998. Some of the duties assigned to Ray during his enlistment were Bravo Company 40th Support Battalion and Charlie Company 540th light maintenance. He was placed in charge of the tent cities during the Northridge Earthquake. He also went to Aberdeen Proven Grounds in 89-90 for advanced officer training. In the early 90's he went to Hohenfels, Germany for combat maneuver training. His years of service in the Sheriff's department were from 1985 to 2013. He started his career as a Jailer at Men's Central Jail. He then moved to a patrol car and on to becoming a training officer. He started in Lomita and then Walnut. He retired as 1 of 9 members in the ICIB Unit for the Sheriff's Department. He is survived by his wife, Joan, who recently celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his children Andrea Lyman, her husband Eric and his son Matthew Ruiz; and by his 3 grandchildren Andrew, James and Madalynn. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Thomas Miller Mortuary, 1118 E 6th St, Corona, CA 92879. The funeral mass will be at 10:30 on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 2140 West Ontario Avenue, Corona, CA 92882. Interment at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the NRA or the Sheriff's Relief Association.
