RAYMOND EARLE JOHNSON January 27, 1921 October 29, 2014 Ray was born in Buffalo, New York to Laverne Johnson and Norma Bobier Johnson, both immigrants to the United States from Exeter, Ontario, Canada. He passed away at his home in Riverside, California. After high school in Buffalo, Ray entered the United States Coast Guard where he served during World War II. Following the war, he worked for the telephone company and in banking for a time, but soon enrolled at Union College in Schenectady, NY where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. He went on to become a Professional Engineer and commissioned officer with the Public Health Service (PHS), working in a number of cities around the country before coming to Riverside. After leaving the PHS, he worked for many years as an Engineer for Riverside County. Ray had a lifelong love of sailing and owned sailboats throughout his life. He was an accomplished painter and sculptor as well, and volunteered with the Riverside Art Alliance for many years. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Johnson; son, Ray Johnson Jr. and his wife, Angelika, Port Washington, NY; son Scott Johnson and his wife, Dana, Saratoga, CA; daughter, Pamela Conrad and her husband, Damian of Portland, Oregon; and his three grandchildren, Laura Johnson, Mountain View, CA; Hayden Conrad, Eugene Or; and Noah Conrad, Boston, MA. He was preceded in death by his son Thomas Johnson, Seattle, Washington, in 1998. Services will be held at a later date in Riverside.
