RICARDO "RIC" CODY ESCALANTE succumbed to a coma following a heart attack on July 30, 2015 in Irvine, CA. He was 37 years old. A computer engineer and life-long resident of Southern California, Ric is survived by his father, Ricardo G. Escalante; his sisters, AnnMarie Escalante McCoy and Cori Escalante; his nieces, Nicolette Escalante and Mollie McCoy; his nephew, Tatsu; his great-nephew, Preston; grandfather, John Gilbert; and his girlfriend, Brenda Beitia-Cole. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marlene Wilkes Spaven; grandmothers Luisa Guzman and Inez Gilbert; and grandfathers Paul T. Escalante and Thomas Merlin Wilkes. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, boyfriend and a great friend. Ric was born in Huntington Beach, California on July 15, 1978, to Ricardo Escalante and Marlene Wilkes. He attended Rubidoux High School. He worked for IBM, Procom Technology, Sun Microsystems, Oracle, and Imation. Ric was an avid bodybuilder, placing high in several competitions and claiming the title of Mr. Orange County 2011. In his spare time, Ric often refereed for high-school wrestling matches. Some of his greatest pleasures in life were traveling, riding his motorcycle, great wine, fine-dining, good scotch, and cigars. He was a passionate animal lover who was known for loving his golden retrievers and hummingbirds adamantly. Ric was loved by so many. He was a supportive and compassionate man with a big heart. There was nothing he would not do to help his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. A memorial service is scheduled for 1pm on August 9, 2015 at the Sunkist Citrus Center in the California Citrus State Historic Park in Riverside, CA.
