Richard B. "Dick" Gregory Obituary
RICHARD B. "DICK" GREGORY, 86, long time resident of Redlands, joined his beloved wife of 44 years, Dr. Dorothy May Gregory, in heaven on December 17, 2015. Born July 5, 1929 in Los Angeles County, he lived his entire life in southern California, with the exception of '51 - '52 with Army Co A 100th Tank Battalion after he was drafted into the Korean War. The Battle of Heartbreak Ridge was a favorite of many stories he enjoyed telling of his time in the war, and he met faithfully with his local Korean War vet brothers every month until the end. After returning from Korea, he worked for Calavar Corporation of Santa Fe Springs for over 25 years until his retirement in 1987. Richard was a gentle, quirky soul, a friend to the birds and strays in his backyard, and a faithful member of Orange Grove Chapel in Redlands. He loved walking and his daily walks with his sweetheart were a fixture in their neighborhood until the day she passed while they were walking together; and after that, on his own. Predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, parents Pete H. and Emelia A. Gregory, and sisters Ethel Vosler and Bernice Denison. He is survived by his sister M. Dorothy Gregory of WA, and his 5 nieces and nephews: Laurie Becker of OR, Eileen Sandoval and Jim Denison of WA, Nancy Smith and James Vosler of OH, and 10 grand nieces and nephews. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 2, at ROSE HILLS MEMORIAL PARK, 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, CA. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to enjoy some of his stories at http://bit.do/richardgregory, and exhorted to donate generously to your community organizations which provide care and support to the elderly.
