Richard Bradley "Dick" Martin Obituary
RICHARD BRADLEY "DICK" MARTIN passed away in Corona, CA on April 3, 2016 at the age of 80. His passing was peaceful as he closed his eyes and went to sleep at home surrounded by family. Dick was born May 9, 1935 in Denver, CO, the third of six children born to Walter and Marie Martin. Dick grew up in Colorado until going away to college at the Los Angeles campus of Pepperdine College. He graduated from Pepperdine in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion, and became a minister with the Church of Christ in Long Beach and then Riverside, CA. Dick and his first wife, Aletrice, had two daughters, Deanna and Denise. He found his true calling in the late 1960's through teaching. He taught for the Corona / Norco School District and completed his Masters Degree in Education from USC in 1973. He completed his 30 year teaching career in special Education for the Fontana School District retiring in 2004. As a beloved teacher, Mr. Martin was recognized as an innovative educator who believed in creative expression and "seeing a child who has had a failure attitude change". Dick met the love of his life Barbara in the late 70's where they married in 1979, and became father to Barbara's two boys, Daev and Kendall Junior (KJ). He loved spending time with his family, both in California and Colorado and will be remembered for his amazing ability to mix humor and intellect. Singing and music were a constant in his life as he loved to play the guitar for his students, friends and family. When his grandkids were coming over "okey-dokey grandpa" always made sure the croquet set and games were ready to play. Dick is survived by Barbara, his devoted wife of 36 years; daughter Deanna Formaini (Enrico) of Stevenson Ranch, CA; daughter Denise Williams (Patrick) of Riverside, CA; son Daev Heselton of Riverside, CA and preceded in death by son Kendall Junior (KJ) of Riverside, CA. Grandchildren include Cristina and Christian Formaini, Caitlyn and Parker Williams. He is also survived by his siblings Warren (Trudy) of Colorado, Jim (Ann) of Colorado, and Cheryl Richardson (Dennis) of Texas. At Dick's request, the family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
