RICHARD DONALD LONGTIN JR. June 1, 1943 - April 8, 2016 Richard was born in San Francisco, California, the oldest of three, his sister Lynn San Angelo of Pomona and Joan Torres of Downey. His family moved to Tucson, Arizona when he was about ten, where he attended school and later went to work for the Tucson Fire Department where, at the age of 23, he received the Sixth Annual Meritorious Certificate for Heroism when he carried a 70 year old woman through 175 feet of surging floodwaters to safety. Richard spent 10 years in the fire department and then went to New York for a time as track announcer for the Quarter horse track. He returned to Arizona where he had a horse vanning service before going into race training full time. He retired from training to oversee the building of a Thoroughbred horse training facility in Anthony, New Mexico. After his marriage in 2005 to Pat Thompson, he moved to Hemet, California where she had a Thoroughbred horse farm. Richard is survived by his two sons, Richard III of Tucson, Arizona and Michael of Anthony, New Mexico. Services will be held May 10th at 11:00AM at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 780 S. State. St, Hemet, with a gathering after at The Anchor Restaurant, 2524 East Florida Ave, Hemet.
