1936 - 2017 Obituary Condolences

Richard Dwight Avery, of Corona, CA, passed away on March 31, 2017 at 81 years of age. The son of the late Dwight and Helen Avery, of Corona, CA, was preceded in death by his brother Ricky Ray Avery. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lola; his children Randy Avery and Vickie Dewey and 3 grandchildren: Anna Dewey, Charles Dewey, and RandiAnn Avery. He is also survived by his sister Mickie Brooks. He graduated from Corona High School in 1954, and was a 3 year letterman in football, track and basketball. He enlisted in the USAF in 1956 and married Lola Ice the same year. He was a navigator in the USAF, flying missions all around the world and earned many medals, including two Distinguished Flying Crosses. He earned both his Bachelor Degree and a Masters of Education while in the Air Force. He retired as a Lt. Col. from the Air Force after a distinguished 30 year career. After retiring from the Air Force he was a substitute teacher in Corona for several years. He loved traveling with his wife and family. He was active in Lions, Elks, and various service organizations.
Services will be April 11th at 10:30am at Thomas Miller Mortuary in Corona, with viewing at 9:30 am, and burial services including full military honors following at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside at 12:30 pm.
