Richard Herbert DeWitt Obituary
RICHARD HERBERT DE WITT, JR. Age 85, of Riverside, CA, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2013 surrounded by his family and wonderful caregivers in his home. He was born July 25, 1927 in Binghamton, NY. He attended Phillips Andover Academy in Mass. from 1941-45, and Purdue University from 1945-49. It was there that he met the love of his life, Mary Jane Hansen. After graduating in 1949, Dick and Jane were married August 20, 1949 and settled in Pontiac, MI. Dick developed a passion for golf and found it difficult to play enough in the cold Michigan winters. In June of 1960, Dick and Jane moved their two young sons, Rick and Gerry, to California where Dick bought the fine Riverside establishment, The Overtime. Dick later went to work for the County of Riverside Assessor's office until he retired in 1979. Dick enjoyed his retirement at his new "office" of the Victoria Club golf course and in his extensive travel. Dick is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jane, and his two children, Gerry and Katie. A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on Sunday, April 21 from 2-5 pm at the Victoria Club in the Banquet Room.
