Richard (Dick) Preciado Obituary
RICHARD (DICK) PRECIADO 1929 - 2014 He passed away July 19, 2014 at age 85, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Riverside, CA. He was 3rd generation of family who came to southern Ca. in 1888. Graduated Riverside Poly High, RCC, University of Denver, Graduate work U.C.R. He was honored with 1st place in Shot Put in high school through college. He enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was called "Mister Sports". While still in basic training he trained a combined Army-Air Force football team. He went on to be chosen "trainer, coach of every sport in the Army". Written in his honor by the Army, "Behind the scenes of every sporting event are the unsung heroes; wizards who keep the athletes in shape physically and mentally." Returning home to Riverside, he devoted his sports and army training to help youth guidance, probation correction, and many young men who were blessed to have his "tuff" training help to become successful. His insurance claim company brought him to a location across the street from the LA Memorial Coliseum. Memories of his college days competing in Shot Put renewed his desire to compete. At age 50 he trained for 2 months, and won Gold 1st place Senior Olympics Shot Put! He then went on to teach the insurance business at Riverside Community College. He lived a private and simple life. His true gold medal is his heart. We will forever be embracing his heart, mind & spirit. His inspired storytelling will be missed by family & Elmwood Ct. friends. Survived by: nephew Bruce Pride, niece Susan Pride & family, True Everhart & family, Fred Stevens & family, Dennis Preciado & family. Viewing: August 5th, 4:00 - 8:00 pm held at Acheson & Graham (Garden of Prayer). Funeral Service: August 6th, 10:30 am at Riverside National Cemetery.
