Richard Soshin Higa Obituary
RICHARD SOSHIN HIGA Born: May 20, 1927 Died: September 1, 2014 Richard was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. At the age of 19, he owned and operated a successful business, "Higa Motorcycles". It was there that he met Doris. He courted her until she finally agreed to marry him. They were married 61 years until his death. After serving his country in the US Army during WWII, Richard felt a strong need to provide the best for his growing family. He firmly believed there would be more opportunities on the mainland so moved his family to California in 1957. Seeking employment in his field of passion motorcycles, he first gained employment at Skip Fordyce in Riverside. He moved on to K&N Motorcycles then eventually found his home at Malcolm Smith's Motorcycles where he was employed as a Master Mechanic. It was there that he worked his way up to General Manager and stayed until he retired at age 65. Richard is survived by wife (Doris Higa); sons (Glenn and Kelvin Higa); daughter (Debbie Garcia); six grandchildren (Jennifer, Jessica, Matthew, Samantha, Elisse, and Spencer) and his loyal companion Koko. He will always be remembered as a man of few words and taught by example. His wisdom inspired many. A graveside service will be held on September 19th for family and close friends at Riverside National Cemetery starting at 12:45 PM. A memorial reception will be held at California Citrus State Historic Park starting at 1 PM for all who would like to join in and celebrate the life of Richard.
