Rioh H. Rioh Obituary
RIOH H. HEWER Age 83, died peacefully on January 14, 2017, at home in Yucaipa, CA surrounded by family. Born December 1, 1933 in Santa Monica, Rioh grew up in West Los Angeles and Thousand Palms area. He moved to La Puente in 1946 and attended La Puente High School. When the Korean Conflict came along, he enlisted in the Navy (1951-1954) and was assigned to Helicopter Utility Squadron I, the first Navy helicopter unit with the aircraft assigned to ships of the fleet. After the Navy, Rioh served as a firefighter (13 years) for the City of Monterey Park and became a member of the Coast Guard Reserve for 16 years. From there, he moved to St. Thomas, USVI, serving in the CG Unit (San Juan) as team leader of the sub unit assigned to Marine Safety Office. Having a Coast Guard Ocean Operator license, Rioh ran cargo/passenger boats down island. After returning to California, Rioh went to work as Director of General Services at the Episcopal Home in Alhambra until he retired in 1990. He moved to Yucaipa in 1997. Rioh then joined the Yucaipa Citizen Patrol. He enjoyed ten years of service that included four years as Vice Commander, 5000 hours of service, and many awards. Having combined their families 27 years ago, Rioh is survived by his wife Linda; children Linda Thompson (Everett) of Menifee, CA, Wanda Hewer of Eugene, OR, Brenda Perez (Al) of Hemet, CA, Rene Roderigues (Matt) of Murietta, CA, Jessica Neumayer of Eugene, OR, Roberta Fernandez of Las Vegas, NV and John Fernandez of Long Beach, CA. There are also 24 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was predeceased by his parents and grandson Michael Miles. Inurnment is Friday, February 10, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Riverside National Cemetery. Military honors are scheduled. People are encouraged to meet at Staging Area #3, and arrive 15 minutes early. A Celebration of Life is scheduled Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 12:00 PM at the clubhouse in El Dorado Palms, 35218 Fir Avenue, Yucaipa, California.
