Robert A. (Bob) Slamal Obituary
ROBERT (BOB) A. SLAMAL Age 68, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at his home on June 10, 2015. He was born on September 29, 1946 in San Bernardino, Ca. Bob graduated from Eisenhower High School in Rialto then San Diego State University. As a young man he played baseball, and under his father's guidance became an avid hunter, ski racer, and world class fisherman. As a member of the U.S. Fly Fishing Team, he competed in Norway, and later Jackson Hole, Wyoming which his team won. In 1970 he partnered with his father and opened Riverside Ski and Sport and Ski and Sport Marine. A passionate outdoorsman with a keen business sense, Bob and his wife Leslie kept Ski and Sport ahead of the current trends for 30 years until their recent retirement. As a shop owner and fly fishing guide, he shared his love and knowledge introducing hundreds to the sport of fly fishing. His love for fishing, hunting and yellow Labrador retrievers was only surpassed by the love for his family. The consummate story-teller, outdoorsman and all-around man's-man, he will be missed by all who were met by his smiling face. He is survived by his wife, Leslie Slamal; his son Scott Slamal (Becky); his daughter Jill Peterson (Tim); and the two joys of his life, his granddaughters Makalya Slamal and Megan Peterson, as well as his dog Scout. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Trout Unlimited, a national organization dedicated to protecting and restoring rivers and their watersheds. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 19th at 10:00am in the Sunkist Center Building at the CA Citrus State Historic Park, 9400 Dufferin, Riverside, CA 92504.
