Robert Charles Snyder Obituary
ROBERT CHARLES SNYDER Age 94, a native Californian, born July 9, 1919 in Riverside, CA, passed away Oct. 16, 2013 at Hemet Valley Hospital surrounded by all his loving family. He was the son of Oran and Mary Snyder, brother of Lewis Snyder, long time Riversiders. In 1937, he graduated from Poly High School, attended Riverside City College graduating in 1939. He served in two branches of the service during WWII receiving a honorable discharge from the Navy for his service in the Asiatic Pacific as Boatswains Mate First Class. After proudly serving his country, he returned to Riverside where he resumed his career at Southern California Telephone Company, there he met Gerry Hemen. They were married December 8, 1946. During his 43 years in the telephone industry, he held numerous positions in Riverside, Los Angeles, and Orange County. After working in San Juan, Puerto Rico for 8 1/2 years as assistant to the President of ABI, he retired in 1983, where he continued on for 1 1/2 years as a consultant. Moving to San Jacinto in 1985, he was an avid golfer, longtime member of Soboba Springs Country Club, past President of the Men's Club. Bob was fortunate to have two holes-in-one; one in Puerto Rico and one at Soboba Springs Country Club. In addition he enjoyed his family and friends and their activities. Bob enjoyed reading, the Dodgers, woodworking, his 1927 Studebaker and traveling the United States and the world with Gerry. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of nearly 67 years, Gerry; his son Steven Gerald (Helen); his daughter, Robin Sarah Weiner (Adam); his grandchildren Blake Snyder (Maureen), Leah Snyder, Denise Snyder, Aleena Bissett; 1 great granddaughter, Savannah Snyder. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Bob was preceded in death by his oldest son, Dennis Charles in 1969. Services will be held at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside on November 1, 2013 at 9:15am, followed by a Celebration of Bob's life at Hemet Valley Mortuary Chapel at 11:30am.
