Robert Crane Duncan Obituary
ROBERT CRANE DUNCAN passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 26, 2016 in Wildomar, CA at the age of 89. Robert was born on January 17, 1927 in Springfield, Missouri and lived continuously in Southern California since 1947; with 3 years in Hollywood, 37 years in Van Nuys and 29 years in Wildomar, CA. Mr. Duncan received his education in Springfield, Missouri. Mr. Duncan served in WWII from May 1945 to February 1947. He received his Army training with the Corp of Engineers at Fort Lewis, WA. He was shipped overseas at the end of WWII to Okinawa, transporting Japanese PWS back to Japan, had Special Duty running the company PX and later as Head of the Art Department for the Daily Okinawan, a G.I. Daily newspaper. He was promoted to rank of CPL for this service. Mr. Duncan had been an Architect since 1947, having received his internship in Architect's offices in Kansas City, Missouri, Chicago, Illinois and Los Angeles, California. He attended the school of Architecture at University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Mr. Duncan's notable works were churches, education buildings, senior and college residence halls and mobile home parks' recreation buildings. Mr. Duncan and his wife Phyllis made their home in Wildomar, CA since 1987, but formerly lived in Van Nuys, CA from 1950-1987, where they reared their children. They were active in the First Baptist Church of Van Nuys from 1960-1980, where Bob served from 1973-1979 as their Business Administrator and also architect for Fickett Towers, their Senior Citizens residence, serving 4 years on the Management Board. He was active in Boy Scouts with his boys. He was active in Van Nuys Rotary and served 10 years on the Board of Directors for Mid Valley YMCA. Mr. and Mrs. Duncan have been members of Canyon Lake Community Church since 1988 and serve actively in the senior programs. Bob also served from 1992-1997 as their Business Administrator. Mr. Duncan was preceded in death by his parents Rolla and Elsie Duncan, his siblings; Thomas of Baltimore, Md. James of Payson, AZ, Mary Hampton of Boise, ID and Nancy Waligorski of Sun City, CA. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis Joan Leue; three children, Robert Charles of Hemet, CA, Kenneth of Thousand Oaks, CA and his daughter Diane of Wildomar, CA, also five grandchildren; Charlene Linnik of San Diego, Jessica Johnson of Costa Mesa, Daisy Boatwright of Charleston, SC, Lucy Lombardi of Ojai, Peter Duncan of Thousand Oaks, and seven great grandchildren and his cousin Mary Louise Carpenter of Louisiana. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Canyon Lake Community Church in Canyon Lake, CA. Interment will be private at Riverside National Cemetery.
