Robert Edward Starnes Jr. Obituary
ROBERT EDWARD STARNES, JR. Bob Starnes, 68, lost a long and hard-fought battle with colon cancer on December 30, 2012. He died at home in La Quinta, CA, surrounded by his family and friends. Despite the struggles with his illness, Bob kept a most positive outlook. He was at peace with the inevitable, often saying that his life had been a good one. Bob was born on April 6, 1944, in Baton Rouge, LA, to Hazel and Robert (Eddie) Starnes, Sr., who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cathy (nee Meredith); son Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Brandy, who await the birth of their baby girl in San Clemente; two sisters, Barbara Stuart in El Paso, TX, and Linda McLaurin and her husband, Hugh, in Baton Rouge, LA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He served four years as a sergeant in the Air Force, including a tour in Vietnam. Bob then completed his bachelor's and master's degrees in education. Living in California since 1972, he was a creative and beloved teacher in both Riverside (Alvord USD) and Moreno Valley for a total of 35 years. Residing in the Riverside, CA, area for 35 years, Bob and his wife retired to La Quinta. He considered his greatest accomplishments to be his happy marriage and his close relationship to his son and his son's wife, of whom he was extremely proud. He is beloved by both his family and his many friends who are inspired by his generous and upbeat spirit. Per his wishes, there will be no service. His cremains will be placed at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.
