ROBERT LEE PIERCE

Age 91, of Hemet, CA, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017, at home in Hemet, CA. He was born Tuesday, December 15, 1925 in Royal Oak, MI and was the son of the late Franklyn and Marie ( Roth ) Pierce. Right until the end he was completely independent especially with his newly renewed driver's license which he very was proud of, and he always enjoyed a good political debate.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life Theresa Marie Pierce, his wife of 53 years who passed away April 8, 2006. Surviving are sons, Timothy Pierce and his wife Dottie of Riverside CA. Tom Pierce and his wife Kathleen of Copperopolis CA; daughter, Kathleen Pierce of San Jose, CA and sister Joan Schmeichel of Traverse City, MI as well as 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
Robert served in the United States Army during WWII with the "Fighting 69th" and fought in the Battle of the Bulge receiving the Bronze Star for bravery. He was most proud of being one of the first U.S. soldiers to meet the Russians at the Elbe River. Continuing his service to his country he spent 25 years with the Department of Defense spending 3 years in Heidelberg Germany and upon retiring spent 10 years with FMC Corporation and was an instrumental part of the engineering design team to develop and release the Bradley Fighting Vehicle.
Robert and his wife Theresa were avid world travelers visiting 5 continents and 38 countries. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golf, bowling and western and military movies, particularly John Wayne. He will be truly missed.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Monday, April 10, 2017, at McWane Family Funeral Home, 350 N. San Jacinto St., Hemet, California. A Funeral service will be at 10:31 AM on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 10:31 staging area #8 at Riverside National Cemetery located at 22495 Van Buren Boulevard Riverside, California 92518. Interment will be in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA.
