Robert William Tomes Obituary
ROBERT WILLIAM TOMES, age 67, passed away from an illness on July 13, 2014 at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Riverside, CA. He was born in October 1946 in Avenel, NJ and graduated from Corona Senior High School in 1966. He had lived in Corona, CA , previously in Riverside, CA. He was a successful business owner of Tri-County Building Material in Riverside, CA. He served in the United States Marine Corps in 1964 and was honorably discharged for health reasons. He was especially proud of a 1957 newspaper article where he was called a "tower of strength in the batter's box". This earned him the nickname Bob "The Tower" Tomes among his teammates. He enjoyed coaching both his son, Bob's and daughter, Meredith's baseball teams. Robert is survived by his best friend and former wife Cynthia Tomes; daughters Laura (David) McLain, Meredith (Ryan) Landrum, Melissa (Bobby) Porter, and Wendy; son Robert (Danielle) Stanick; brother Gary (Devora) Tomes; and his two best four legged friends, Snickers and Hope. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Christina Marie and his parents Walter Lewis and Mary Virginia Tomes; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Visitation: Thursday, July 17, 2014, 9am with Funeral Services at 10am followed by a graveside service at 11am; all at Pierce Bros. Crestlawn Memorial Park and Mortuary in Riverside, CA.
