Roberta Sharer Obituary
ROBERTA SHARER, 82 years old, a former resident of Perris, California, passed away at the Arlington Gardens Care Center in Riverside, California on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at about 9:45 p.m. She succumbed to failing health, due to a fall and other health complications that led to a left leg amputation, then septic shock that ultimately ended her life. Roberta is the daughter of Robert Lee Henagin and Lucy Luella Henagin, school principal and teacher respectively, both deceased. Roberta was born in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon on April 26, 1933. She was married July 4, 1952 to John H. Sharer Jr. (Jack) in Lane County, Oregon. She is survived by their children, John H. Sharer III, Katherine A. Morris, Anita D. Matney, Nora L. Ford and Rita A. Parker with one deceased son, Mark W. Sharer. She is also survived by one brother, Ronald L. Henagin. Roberta has eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Roberta grew up in Lane County, Oregon, near her grandmother Eudora Stephens, the wife of a well-known general farmer for years in Noti Valley. They had a stock raising business besides that of farming. Grandfather Joseph McClullen Stephens passed away before Roberta's birth and Grandma Stephens continued on with farming during Roberta's childhood and numerous years after. Roberta loved horses and visited the farm with more than 55 sheep, other stock and horses that she loved. She was very proud that the food provided was mostly raised and prepared from the farm with the skills learned and assistance of the family members who ran the farm. She later attended the University of Oregon where she met John H. Sharer Jr. (Jack). They married and soon moved to southern California to start her own family. Roberta loved her family first and foremost, devoting herself to her children. She loved to sew, including quilting and making her own patterns, she read for pleasure, pursued historical research, enjoyed gardening, cooking and coordinating creative artistic projects, coming up with original ideas that often had special meaning and was not afraid to tackle any project head on. Roberta worked for the County of Riverside for about 15 years then retired. Funeral services for Roberta will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at the Fairhaven Memorial Park and Mortuary located at 1702 Fairhaven, Avenue, Santa Ana, CA.
