Ronald E. Blackwell Obituary
RONALD E. BLACKWELL Ronald passed away at the age of 85 on June 11th, 2013 at his daughter Lorrie's, surrounded by the love of his family. Born May 31st, 1928 to Clara E. Blackwell and James A. Blackwell Sr. in Santa Ana, California, the youngest of 3 sons, he grew up playing high school football at Santa Ana High and eventually went on to own Blackwell's Appliance, which serviced customers for over 26 years. He eventually passed down the family business to his son, who ran it for another 12 years. He was a pillar of the community and often people would stop into the shop just to visit. He was a loving father to four children, Chris, Bill, Jan and Lorrie. He spent his summers at a rented beach house on Balboa Island, where he would bring his children and all of their friends and they would have the summers of their lives. He was a member of the OC Orchid Society, where he served as President for 6 years. He often attended their shows and had displays at the Orange County Fair where he won numerous accolades. He later moved to Riverside, California where he owned a large nursery of rare palms and cycads. He spent his days working on his nursery with his best friend John Blauer who would make the drive every day from his home in Newport Beach, and playing with his grand-daughter Brandie. They were inseparable and he could often be found at night with her in his lap while he read her stacks and stacks of Disney Books. He lived life to the fullest, going on many vacations and surrounding himself with his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his brother Bill; daughter Jan; and wife Helen and survived by his brother CDM James A. Blackwell Jr.; his sister-in-law Nadine Pett; his 3 children and his grandchildren. Ron lives with us in memory and will forever more. At his request no services will be held.
