RONNA KADOW, a passionate community leader for children and animals, died on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 in Banning, CA. Ronna served as executive director of the Riverside Humane Society, now known as the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center, for seven years starting in 1996. Ronna was a former president of the State of California Humane Society and was a founding board member of the Inland Empire chapter of Olive Crest, which serves abused, neglected, and at-risk children and their families in California, Nevada, and the Pacific Northwest. She was the executive director and a member of Mary S. Roberts Foundation, interim director of Banning Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Rotary Club in Riverside. Ronna was dedicated to helping her community through her many talents and gifts. She became an advocate and passionate voice for children of abused and abandoned animals. She was also active in support of feeding the homeless and helping cancer survivors. Ronna has been recognized by the California State Assembly for her many accomplishments. In 2007, the Riverside Humane Society Pet Adoption Center awarded her the Albert Schweitzer Humanitarian of the Year Award for her contributions and outstanding service to animals and the community, according to a Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center news release. Ronna "...is credited with developing the Center into what it is today with its dedicated staff and volunteers and its community outreach programs and services, as well as its care and training programs for the homeless animals who enter the facility every day," according to the 2007 release. Born Ronna Lee Forbes on November 2, 1939 in Los Angeles, California, she was the daughter of Robert and Beatrice Forbes. She was in the 13th generation of the Ortega family, who arrived in Baja, California in 1510 from Barcelona, Spain. Ronna was a 24-year resident of Banning. Ronna Kadow is survived by her husband of 27 years, Eugene Kadow; three children, Gina Brehmer of Santa Ana, CA; Christy Bradley of Yamhill, OR; and Jeff Pasquale of Orange, CA; five step-children; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
