Rosann Kinsman passed away February 9, 2017 in Riverside, Calif- ornia, peacefully and surrounded by her children. She was born June 1, 1924 in East Chicago, Indiana, to Michael and Anne (Reppa) Pihulic. She graduated from Washington High School in 1941.
Rosann married then LT (USA) John M. Kinsman in 1946 and moved to Germany where they lived until 1950. During that time, they traveled throughout Europe, including to Rome, where they had a private audience with Pope Pius XII. Subsequent postings included Fort Benning (GA), Fort Rucker (AL), Fort Sam Houston (TX) and Schofield Barracks (HI). Upon MAJ Kinsman's retirement, in 1961, the family moved to Riverside. John and Rosann owned Union 76 service stations there until opening The Bear Flag Cafe in 1982.
A lifelong faithful Catholic, Rosann was active in the community and with the Newman Sponsors of UC Riverside. Rosann and John sponsored dinners and events to support the Newman Center.
Rosann and John were married for 38 years until John's death in 1985. After his death, Rosann divided her time between her children in Houston, Texas and Riverside. She was a loving and attentive mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be remembered for her optimism, compassion and grace, her warm and beautiful smile, her quick wit and frequent laughter, and her beautifully creative mind. She will be missed by family and friends.
