Russell John Berkner Obituary

Age 80, of Hemet, California, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017. He was born April 21, 1937 in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota to Kenneth and Olive Berkner. Russell is survived by his devoted wife of almost 60 years this December 25th, Shirley Berkner; two children, Stewart Berkner and Karen Tanner; son-in-law, John Tanner; grandchild, Rebecca Tanner; brother, Tom Berkner; and sister in-law Pat Berkner.
Russell was an avid outdoors-man. He loved gardening, golfing, fishing, camping, and traveling the country in his RV. He and his wife, Shirley, traveled to Alaska, Canada and all over the western United States. These trips inspired Russell to make beautiful gifts for his family. He enjoyed working with his hands, creating custom knives with leather sheaths and tying flies for stream fishing. He was a talented, creative and artistic man and in his spare time was often found with a guitar (also handmade) in his hands singing one of his favorite tunes. Russell was a man of his word who lived an honorable life. His greatest passion was for his family. He loved getting together for special occasions and taking the family to Hawaii, Mexico, fishing and camping trips.
Russell was a compassionate, caring and gentle man who was dearly loved by so many, and will be deeply missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him.
Russell served our country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps and will be laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery on Friday, October 6th at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the in Russell's memory.
