RUTH ESTHER EVANS (Age 84) On Friday, March 25, 2016, Esther passed away at Montgomery Hospice's Casey House in Rockville, MD, after a three-year battle with cancer. Born on January 19, 1932 in Flint, MI, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Ruth Newcomb. A student of the Italian American violin maker Mario Antonio Frosali, she retired after a 40-year-plus career as a violin maker in the cities where she lived, including North Oaks, MN, Santa Barbara and Riverside, CA; and Bethesda, MD. She was the beloved wife of Donald J. Evans for 63 years; devoted mother of Linda (Robert) Whitlock, the late Stephen A. Evans, Kevin Evans, Sheryl Breyman, and Kathrina Skaar; loving grandmother of the late Michael Evans, Esther Whitlock, Robert Whitlock, Peter Whitlock, Elizabeth (Ben Yau) Arena, Stephen D. (Elaine Consalvo) Evans, Karl Breyman, Natasha Breyman, Vanessa Breyman, Meira Skaar, and Josiah Skaar; and delighted great-grandmother of Gianna Arena, Kiara Arena, and Ellie Yau; sister of Irma Colleen Lamb, the late Elizabeth Joan Richmond, the late Manuel Dwight Newcomb, Paul Richard (Sharon) Newcomb, and Martha Louise (James) Conner. Family and friends were received at the Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, MD, on Friday, April 1, 2016 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service was held at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 5500 River Rd., Bethesda, MD, on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on June 13 at 10am.
