Ruth (Leemon) Hoppus

RUTH (LEEMON) HOPPUS Mrs. Ruth (Leemon) Hoppus, 81, died on April 13, 2007, at her home in Ridgecrest, California. She had been in failing health for some time. She was born in Milford, Indiana, in August 1925 to Ortie and Martha (Douma) Leemon. She lived in Milford until her marriage to George W. Hoppus from Warsaw, IN., in December 1944. After George returned home from the Pacific theater of WWII in 1945, George's Air Force career took Ruth to homes in Texas (twice), Florida, Indiana, Mississippi, Colorado, Kansas, and California (4 times). After George retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel in Riverside, CA., they stayed there and finished raising 4 children. After most of them had left home, Ruth became a Clinic Technician for 12 years at Riverside General Hospital. In January 1983 Ruth and George moved from California back to Milford and bought an historic home on Main Street. While restoring the house to its former splendor, Ruth and George got involved in the Indiana community of her youth. Ruth was a member of the American Legion's Auxiliary, the Kosciusko County Historical Society, its Genealogy Society, and the Columbian Reading Circle. Both she and George were active members of the Milford United Methodist Church. Following George's death and after completing their dream of restoring the Main Street house, Ruth moved in 1998 from Milford back to Riverside, CA., to be near her children. In 2006 she moved to Ridgecrest, CA., because of failing health. She is preceded in death by her sister, Esther (Leemon) Weaver of Florida; her brother William Leemon of Milford; and her husband George. She is survived by her children George "Tex" Hoppus, Ridgecrest, CA.; Michael Hoppus, Media, PA.; Susan (Hoppus) Lasell, Ridgecrest, CA.; and John "Chris" Hoppus, Paso Robles, CA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Milford United Methodist Church in Milford, IN. Burial will be at Violett Cemetery in Goshen, Ind. In loving memory of Ruth, you may send a monetary donation to Victory Baptist Church, 242 Panamint Avenue, Ridgecrest, CA. 93555, or to Optimal Hospice - Ridgecrest, 1653 Triangle Dr., Ridgecrest, CA. 93555.
