RUTH RUBIO July 31, 1935 - October 20, 2013 Mrs. Ruth Rubio passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 20, 2013 following a valiant battle with cancer. The Rubio Family wishes to thank the Loma Linda University Cancer Center doctors and nursing staff and Companion Hospice Care nursing staff for their professionalism, compassion and gentle care in treating our beloved mother. Ruth grew up in the Salinas Valley attending the local schools and graduating from high school in 1953. In that year, she also met and later married the love of her life, Major Bernardo Rubio, who was stationed at Camp Roberts, California. Ruth and Bernie had 5 children, Beverly Rubio, Bernard Rubio (Karen), Benjamin Rubio (Cynthia), Lorraine Mooney (Patrick), and Melissa Barham (Julian). She moved to Riverside, California in 1966 following her husband's job transfer. Ruth began working at UCR's School of Education as a credential analyst. She worked with many teachers and administrators over 30 years, assisting them with necessary coursework required to obtain teaching and administrative credentials. She also worked with the California Teaching Commission in revising and updating credential requirements for History and Math. Ruth was a woman who possessed qualities of loyalty, kindness and generosity. Her family was the center of her life but she also was active in the community. Ruth was married for 50 years until her husband's passing in 2003. She was a Parish Council member at St. Francis de Sales Church, the pianist at Saturday evening Mass, a board member of the Wiley Center, a member of the Rose Society and active in bible study, book clubs and the lives of her 8 grandchildren, Kristen, Matthew, Lorraine, Arthur, Nicholas and Michael Rubio, and Caroline and Catherine Mooney. She had many friends and acquaintances and was always eager to attend films, concerts, theater and to travel. She was truly a lifelong learner. Ruth enjoyed the latest historical novels or other non-fiction books, finding time to have lively discussions with her two sons-in-law about these, politics and current events. Her family is dedicated to continuing her legacy of service, loyalty, kindness and generosity. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Ruth G. Rubio Foundation. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27th at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church located at 4268 Lime St. in Riverside. The funeral Mass will also be at St. Francis de Sales on Monday, October 28th at 9:00 a.m. with burial at the Riverside National Cemetery. Arrangements Entrusted to the Care of 9695 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, CA 92503(951) 785-4071. Please go to www.akesfamilyfuneralhome.com and sign the guest book.
