Sharon Renee (Malikow) Martinez Obituary
SHARON RENEE (MALIKOW) MARTINEZ After many years fighting the good fight, Sharon Renee (Malikow) Martinez passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Sharon was the daughter of the late Marvin Malikow and Evelyn Malikow of Boynton Beach, Florida. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard and sons, Andrew (wife Viri and grandson, Noah), Chad (fiancé Mandy Henning) and step-son Todd (fiance' Joanne Lazar) as well as Yoda, her loyal dog. Sharon is preceded in death by her father and sister, Carol Malikow. Sharon was born in DeWitt, New York on March 30, 1955. She graduated from New York State University in Brockton, New York and taught English (Language Arts) for several years before starting her family and moving to Corona, California. Displaying her family values, Sharon and her family were very active in the American Youth Soccer Organization in which a special tournament had been named "The Martinez Cup" prior to being re-named the "The Commissioner's Cup" to include AYSO. Sharon served on the PTA of her children's schools and served on many Boards in the community serving events such as Medical Camp, the Health and Safety Fair and various parent programs. She also served on the UNITY (United Neighbors Involving Today's Youth) Board, the Board of Peppermint Ridge (agency for developmentally challenged adults), the YMCA Board, the Fender Museum Board, and Woman's Improvement Club. Sharon was very active with , the Foundation Walk, 100 Mile Club and Love Walk to raise money for those inflicted with cancer. Sharon served on the Corona-Norco Unified School District School Board for 13 years before retiring in 2010 due to failing health. She served the communities of Corona and Norco for the past 15 years in many capacities and earning numerous awards for her accomplishments. Sharon was an advocate for children and her caring and compassionate personality was a huge role model for many. During the past few years when Sharon's health was noticeably declining, she would continue to tell you she was "Splendid". Indeed she was and will be sorely missed by many. A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, June 6th at 9:00 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. graveside service at Pierce Bros. Crestlawn Memorial Park, 11500 Arlington Ave., Riverside. A Celebration of Life will also be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Norco High School Performing Arts Theater, 2065 Temescal Ave., Norco.
