Sherman S. Stafford, of Moreno Valley, CA, was called home to be with the Lord on March 7, 2018.
Born in Dill City, Oklahoma on August 5, 1926, he graduated from Dill City High School in 1944. That same year, the family moved to Rubidoux, California where Sherman met the love of his life, Bennie June Clawson. He had to return to Oklahoma to honor the draft and served in the U.S. Army in the south Pacific before being Honorably Discharged in October of 1947. Sherman returned to Riverside and in June of 1949, he & Bennie were married. Their marriage produced 2 sons, Ronald Sherman and Larry Dean, and 1 daughter, Janet Lynne (Stafford) Jones. The family moved to Sunnymead in 1957.
During his 91 years, Sherman was a hardworking man, a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was also an avid 'tinkerer' on Model T cars. He was an active member of the Lion's Club, serving as President of District 4L5 and received the 'Lion of the Year' award in 1975-76. He was also a lifetime member of the Model T Club of America, Corona Chapter, the Moreno Valley Old Settlers, and the Moreno Valley Historical Society.
Sherman was preceded in death by his son, Ronald S. Stafford & son-in-law Joseph W. Jones.
He leaves behind his wife of 69 years, Bennie June Stafford; son Larry Dean (Janet) Stafford; daughter Janet L. Jones; daughter-in-law Robin Stafford; grandchildren, Shellee Stafford, Shane (Elizabeth) Stafford, Kevin (Veronica) Stafford, Dewey (Susan) Stafford, Ashley Pingree, Joel (Jennifer) Jones, Benjamin (Stacey) Jones & Kirt Hulsey; 19 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren (so far).
A Memorial Service will be held at the church at 13300 Indian Avenue, Moreno Valley, on March 28 at 11:00 a.m. Final interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery.
