Shirley Lee Jacobs Obituary
SHIRLEY LEE JACOBS 11/23/1930 to 04/03/2015 At age 84, a 52 year resident of Corona, CA, she succumbed to complications of Alzeimer's on April 3, 2015. Shirley Woodburn was born on November 23, 1930 in Roswell, New Mexico. She later moved to Los Angeles and attended Hollywood High during her sophomore and junior years. She then moved to Medford, Oregon where she finished her senior year. Shirley was accepted into Pomona College in Claremont but, due to economic constraints, was unable to attend. Shirley moved back to Los Angeles and began working for AT&T as an operator and later a teletype operator. It was while working for the phone company that she met husband Gerald Jacobs. They were married on September 17, 1949 and remained together for 63 years until his passing in 2012. In 1963 Shirley moved to Corona with her husband and two sons. It was here that she became involved with Saint John's Episcopal Church. She was active in the choir, was a member of the alter guild, worked at the church's Thrift Store, the Settlement House and God's Kitchen. Prior to the move to Corona, Shirley worked as secretary at the University of California, Riverside. After her sons were in Junior High, she went to work for 3M, in Corona, handling transportation for the facility. Shirley loved spending time with her family and friends, cooking (and what a cook her bread and pies were amazing), working in the garden, singing in the choir and was a master at crossword puzzles. She is survived by her two sons, Mark and Brian and their wives, Isabella and Sylvia; two grandsons, Matthew and Michael and their wives, Holly and Elizabeth and two great grandchildren, Grady and Conor, with two more great grandchildren on the way. Shirley will be deeply missed. Her service will be held at Saint John's Episcopal Church in Corona on April 25th at 11:00 am.
