Susan Bergman Obituary
SUSAN BERGMAN passed away peacefully on November 9, 2016, in the comfort of her home in Dana Point, CA after a wonderful 88-year life journey. That same day, all of her children and grandchildren drove from various areas of Southern California to surround her husband, Allen Bergman, in love. This truly speaks to Susan's influence in binding her family in love, laughter, and faith. Susan Urbane Meyer was born to Herman and Elizabeth "Betty" Meyer on February 25, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Charleston, West Virginia. She met the love of her life, Allen G. Bergman while on a train heading home from college for Christmas break, where they discovered they only lived a few blocks away from each other. As Susan would say, "It was fate. God had a plan in store for us, and we lived out our lives together on faith." They were married on May 6, 1951 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio. Susan's father, a Lutheran minister, walked her down the aisle and then married the couple. Susan graduated from Miami University in 1949 and worked as a secretary until she and Allen married. She then devoted herself to being the best wife and mother she could be. Susan and Allen were married 65 loving, joyful years. Early on in their marriage, they moved from Columbus, OH to Riverside, CA where Allen opened his own insurance agency, and where they raised their three children. After living in Riverside for 56 years, Susan and Allen fulfilled their dream of living near the beach when they permanently moved to Dana Point in 2010. One of their sons, Bruce, an architect, redesigned their home to model the serenity of the sea, which is painted and decorated in tasteful shades of blue and green, Susan's favorite colors. Susan was an active tennis and bridge player, and in her free time she enjoyed painting furniture, walking along the beach, and reading. She was a steadfast church attendee, and lived her life with a solid faith in God. Susan-"Grandy" to her grandchildren-was always actively involved in her grandchildren's lives, supporting them in their studies, activities, and passions. She made it a priority to bring her whole family together for holidays, birthdays, and summer vacations. Susan's contagious laugh, spunky personality, creativity, and wisdom will be greatly missed. Susan's legacy lives on through her husband, Allen; her brother, Gordon (Margie); her 3 children (and spouses), son Gordon (LeDair), son Bruce (Liz), daughter Anne (Travis); her 5 grandchildren, Brett (Patti), Brandon, Matt, Kelsey, and Brandt; and, her many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Dana Point on December 3rd, at 10:30AM. Address: 33501 Stonehill Dr., Dana Point, CA 92629.
