THOMAS SHEFFIELD BARDEEN Age 93 of Hemet, California, died at 7:31 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2014. Tom was born September 24, 1920, Hollywood, California, to Hugh Alan and Edna Rogers Bardeen. Tom graduated from Hollywood High School in 1938. He served in the Army Air Corps as a pilot and pilot trainer during World War II. He worked in the oil business, first with his father, his brother-in-law, J.B. Graner, and for himself as the Oilwell Pumping Service. He married Barbara Margaret Hunt, also of Hollywood, CA, on May 2, 1942 at Westwood Community Methodist Church, Rev. Gordon Chapman presiding with Knox Bardeen and Marien Hunt as witnesses. Barbara was born on March 23, 1921 and died on December 28, 1997, Hemet, CA. They resided in Highland Park, Torrance, Los Alamitos, Anaheim, and Hemet. Tom married a second time to Marge Zobrist of Hemet. He was a previous member of St. Andrews Presbyterian, Redondo Beach, CA. He helped start and served as a founding elder of the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Los Alamitos, CA, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Hemet, CA. His interests include opera, playing golf, gardening, walking, traveling, and enjoying his family. Survivors include Esther Barnes of Hemet, his dear friend; five children, Thomas (Jo Ann) of Vashon Island, WA, Marien (Bill) Lake of Martinsburg, WV, Robert (Joyce) of Peoria, IL, Peter (Laurel) of Fallbrook, CA, and Caroline (Rod) Hometh of Newburyport, MA; fifteen grandchildren, Lorraine (Beth) Bardeen of Seattle, WA, Lia (Cesar) Lira of Ensenada, Baja, Mexico, Jeremy Young of Kirkland, WA, Tracy (Jason) Wells of Lake Forest Park, WA, Jennifer Peterson (Eric) of Arlington, VA, John Lake (Dawn) of Ft. Mohave, AZ, Sarah (Jeremy) Gabrielson of Scotts Valley, CA, Rachel (Chris) Flannery of Olathe, KS, James (Regan) of Los Angeles, CA, Brock (June) Bardeen of Costa Mesa, CA, Kristin (Rob) Taft of Mission Viejo, CA, Jason Bardeen of San Luis Obispo, CA, Joseph (Sarah) Arthur of New York City, NY; and Allegra and Serafina; eighteen great grandchildren, Jackson Wells, Amelia Rowe-Bardeen, Oliver Rowe-Bardeen, Henry Grover, Elizabeth Grover, Nathan Grover, Maddison Lake, William Lake, Zach Flannery, Caleb Gabrielson, Joshua Gabrielson, Maggie Flannery, Abigail Gabrielson, Caroline Flannery, Elisabeth Gabrielson, Havilah Gabrielson, Simeon Bardeen, Luke Bardeen. He was preceded in death by his parents, both of his wives, and all seven siblings, Jean, Esther, Virginia, Hugh, Knox, Mary, and Teresa. The funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Hemet, CA, 11am, Thursday, January 9, 2014, with burial at the Riverside National Cemetery, CA, at 1:31pm. Rev. Larry Thorson and Dr. Robert Bardeen will officiate at both services. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials can be made to First Presbyterian Church, 515 E.
