Truman Ballard Brown Obituary
Age 83, known by family and friends as "Sonny", passed away on May 20, 2017 at his home in Quail Valley, CA due to complications of COPD.
Sonny was born February 8, 1934 in Waurika, OK to Daniel Nall Brown and Nadine Elizabeth Brown. The family moved between Oklahoma and California several times before settling in Redondo Beach, CA in the early 1950's. It was then that Sonny went to El Camino College to study electronics. He went to work for Northrop in 1954 and worked there for 22 years before having to leave due to disability.
He married Sylvia Mary St. Denis in 1957 at Quartzsite, AZ. They had three children: Beth, Joyce, and Steven. The marriage ended in divorce in 1968. Sonny never remarried but had long term relationships.
He lived in the South Bay until 1979 when he moved to Lake Elsinore. The Lake Elsinore area would be the place where he called home besides a 5-year period when he moved to New Mexico to live with his son, Steven, and his family. He enjoyed the people in the area and was a long-term vendor at the Elsinore Swap Meet on Central before it's closing.
His greatest and longest love was the automobile. He was a self-taught mechanic and avid classic car fan, having owned over 50 cars throughout the years. He attended most of the car shows in the area and truly enjoyed the cars and the people.
He loved music. He was a country western and bluegrass fan. Bluegrass, however was his favorite genre of music. One of his favorite bluegrass festivals was the Golden West Bluegrass Festival in Norco. He also enjoyed listening to karaoke and many local live music venues.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved daughter Joyce Lee Brown; sisters, Cliffogene Brown, Patsy Gene Brown, Dorothy Ruth Brown, Marjorie Sue Dale, and Rebecca Ann Smith; brothers, Jerry Nall Brown and Jimmy Wayne Brown; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who he greatly loved.
He is survived by his daughter Beth Ann Schwartz; son Steven Craig Brown; sisters, Mary Ellen Wightman and Sharon Parker; brother, Ted Michael Brown; son-in-law Michael Schwartz; daughter-in-law Joni Brown; grandchildren, Jason McCumber, Jeremy McCumber, Amy Forester, Nadine Brown, and Cory Brown; great grandchildren, Morgan McWaters, Myles McWaters, and Emma McWaters; and again, many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.
There will be a memorial service at his residence on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11am, located at 23717 Clara Place, Quail Valley, CA 92587. It is a pot luck. Water, soda and coffee will be provided. In lieu of flowers or donations the family request that you let your family know how much they are loved and if you knew Truman Ballard "Sonny" Brown share what, I know, are good memories.
