Vincent Patrick Stroud Obituary
VINCENT PATRICK STROUD died peacefully, surrounded by his children and grandchildren on July 15, 2014. Born on August 2, 1917 in New York, Vincent's family later moved to New Jersey where he met the love of his life, Eileen Hackett. Vincent and Eileen were married in Delaware Water Gap, PA on October 16, 1938. They were blessed with 75 years of marriage before Vincent lost his beloved Eileen early this year. The Strouds began their life together in Montclair, NJ, where Vincent served on the Montclair Fire Department for 13 years. In 1952, they moved to Riverside with son John, and daughters Jill and Judy. The Stroud family was complete when daughter Shannon was born in 1963. After 20 years in Riverside the Strouds moved to Hemet where they resided for 40 years. Vincent was active in local businessmen's associations, and Our Lady of the Valley parish community, where he served tirelessly volunteering for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Catholic Blood Bank of the Valley, and the Knights of Columbus. Following his retirement from the Riverside County Assessor's Office, Vincent worked with the State Controller's Office as a probate referee until 1984. Since then, he remained active volunteering as a tax consultant for the American Association of Retired Persons. Throughout his life, Vincent could be counted on whenever a need arose: to help build a church or school, to counsel a friend, or to mentor an associate. He did so without fanfare. He was the best friend a person could have, the most reliable member for any organization, and immeasurably, the most loving and patient father, grandfather, and husband. Vincent is survived by his children, John Stroud of Palm Desert and Folsom, Jill Contri of Riverside, Judy Stroud Stevens of Ocotillo, Shannon Sauls and husband Steve of Moreno Valley, as well as brother Robert and wife Gladys of Maryland. Also left to continue his works are 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, of whom he was most proud. Viewing and Rosary will be held at Arlington Mortuary, 9645 Magnolia Ave. in Riverside on Friday, July 25 from 4:00 p.m. (Rosary at 7:00 p.m.). Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Andrew's Newman Center, 105 W. Big Springs Rd. in Riverside at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26. Burial will be on Monday, July 28, in Hemet.
