VINTON LATHAM KREEGER JR. Feb. 8, 1930 - Sept. 8, 2015 Vinton L. Kreeger, better known as Stubby, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California. Stubby's life was characterized by a bright mind and extraordinary hands that could build or repair anything. He was devoted to his family, friends and church. Throughout his life Stubby pursued a lifelong desire to travel at home and abroad. Stubby was born in Wichita, Kansas to Ida and Vinton L. Kreeger Sr.. Much of his childhood was spent living in Kansas City, MO. Through his long term involvement with the Boy Scouts of America, Stubby achieved the distinction of Eagle Scout in 1945. Stubby attended Kansas City University before enlisting in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant, 15th Air Force Intelligence. While in the Air Force, Stubby developed his mechanical engineering and drafting skills which helped him prepare for his future professional jobs at Hunter Engineering, Evans Products, Pascoe Building Systems and Maple Brothers. The Air Force brought Stubby to California, where he met, fell in love and married Norma Preston. They enjoyed 50 wonderful years of marriage, and together they raised two children. After the passing of Norma in 2005, Stubby met and married a wonderful woman named Shirley Strickland. They have been happily married from 2007 to the present. Stubby is survived by his wife, Shirley Kreeger, and her 3 children, 2 sons-in-law; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, also by his sister, Pat Coomes, and brother, Bob Kreeger, and finally by his son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Terry Kreeger, and his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and John Jager, and his two grandchildren, Matt and Kylie. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 21st, 10:30am at Magnolia Church in Riverside, CA, with lunch at the church immediately following the service. A private Honor Burial Service will take place later that same day at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Stubby's name, to Magnolia Church (Building Fund) in Riverside, CA.
