Virginia "Rusty" Hedrick Obituary
VIRGINIA "RUSTY" HEDRICK,passed away September 7, 2014 at age 84. She was born October 11, 1930, the youngest of 11 children, to Callie May and Lewis Raymond Gardner in Wellington, Kansas. In her lifetime, Virginia was many things to many people, a loving mother; a successful banker; community leader; skilled artisan; inventor and entrepreneur, to name but a few. She was a banker by profession, retiring as a Vice President after 40 years with Security Pacific National Bank. Ever mindful of her community and civic duties, she was a dedicated Girl Scout Leader to Troop 199, who over the years still remain friends and will sadly mourn her passing. A quilter since childhood, she will forever be remembered for her beautiful traditional hand quilting. She invented and patented a quilt frame, and from this the family business, "Quilt Crafts", was established and grew. Among her many accomplishments in the quilting community, she founded the Inland Empire Quilter's Guild and served as its President and Show Chairman for several years. Virginia is survived by her sister Marjorie Howard; her two children: daughter Evelyn (Lyn) and son Richard (Dick), wife Diana; 5 grandsons; and 7 great-grandchildren. Interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery alongside her husband of 63 years, Robert Joseph Hedrick, who preceded her in death in June of 2012.
