Virginia MacDonald Obituary
Virginia MacDonald passed away on Feb. 5, 2018 from complications of kidney disease.
Ginny was raised in Arizona and graduated from Cal Western in San Diego where she met her husband of 48 years, Greg MacDonald. After their marriage, they settled in Riverside, CA where Ginny began her career.
Ginny was a skilled administrator and mentor to many. She worked in the public education and nonprofit sectors, including as a teacher, a caseworker for the Children's Home Society and co-director of the YWCA. She retired in 2006 after a 23-year career at the Riverside Community College District, beginning as director of the RCCD Foundation and ending as executive assistant and chief of staff to the chancellor. Ginny has been recognized over the years for her outstanding community service and leadership. She received the Athena Award, the YWCA Woman of Achievement Award, and the Junior League Silver Raincross Award.
Ginny and Greg traveled extensively before and after they retired. Besides her many travels, Ginny loved being with her family and many wonderful friends. Ginny was an avid reader and loved going to the movies.
Greg passed away in 2015. Their son Matthew, the joy of their lives, passed away at age 36 in 2009.
Ginny is survived by sister-in-law Marion McCarty (Robert); brother-in-law Malcolm (Ann); sister-in-law Bette MacDonald; nieces and nephews Julie Stead John MacDonald, Chris MacDonald, Rob McCarty and Katie Krieger.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverside Community College Foundation, 4800 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, CA 92506 for the Mathew MacDonald Endowed Scholarship Fund or to a .
