Dr. Vito J. Caruso Obituary
DR. VITO J. CARUSO
Beloved physician and surgeon, Dr. Vito J. Caruso of Tustin, CA passed away unexpected in his home on February 13, 2017 at the age of sixty-five.
Vito was a well respected Orthopedic Surgeon, licensed in California since 1983 and will be lovingly remembered for his outstanding medical skills and his unfailing devotion to each of those patients under his care.
Dr. Caruso was born in Ilion, NY, on May 22, 1951 to Joseph and Angela Caruso, before moving with his family to California in 1965.
After earning two undergraduate degrees, the first in Biological Sciences from USC in 1975, and the second in Psychobiology from UCLA in 1978, he matriculated to Wayne State University Medical School, where he earned his M.D. degree in 1982. Thereafter, he completed a one-year internship, followed by a four-year orthopedic surgery residency, both at Wayne State University. In 1987, Dr. Caruso was accepted to the Joseph Boyes Foundation Fellowship for Hand Surgery in Los Angeles. He completed this USC-affiliated fellowship in 1988. Immediately thereafter, Dr. Caruso entered private orthopedic practice. His practice grew quickly and within years, Dr. Caruso opened up offices in Orange and Riverside counties.
Dr. Caruso devoted a great deal of time to his community. Community and sports had been a big part of Vito's life. For nearly 10 years, he was a Physician Assistant Instructor, offering PAs in training the opportunity to rotate through his office where they received a hands-on educational experience. He also participated for several years in the training of surgical assistants (2008-2011) and served as a team physician for Western High School in Anaheim (1992-1997).
Vito was preceded in death by his parents and his only sibling, Rosalind, a USC graduate and a member of the Sigma Chi sorority and is survived by her two sons, Jeffrey Williams and Gregory Williams.
Dr. Caruso dedicated his life to the caring of others and in helping those in need. His family and friends will remember his passion for medicine, his intellect and his ability to understand and to diagnose the most complex cases.
Vito will be missed beyond measure by his family, his friends, his colleagues and, most of all, by his patients. May he rest in peace.
