WALLACE F. NILSON 5/7/1925 - 11/19/2015 Wally Nilson, a long time resident of the mountains above Lake Elsinore, CA, passed away at his home just off the Ortega Highway on November 19, 2015. Born in Long Beach, CA on May 7, 1925, his family survived the 1933 earthquake and thereafter moved to Pomona. He enlisted in the Navy in July 1942 and served as a combat photographer until May 1946. After finding the area off Long Canyon Road in 1954, he moved his family to the mountain and never left. Wally was self-employed in excavating and grading. He also did blasting; "shooting" what became "The Apple" along Highway 74 east of Elsinore. Several of his customers became lifelong friends. He was a past-president of the Lake Elsinore Rotary. For several years he was instrumental in helping to support Elsinore FFA students by buying beef for the annual Rotary Community Barbeque. Wally was predeceased by his daughter Christine and his ex-wife Flora. He is survived by two sons Nils and Ole; his wife Anna Marie; two sisters; two grandsons; three granddaughters; and eight great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Pomona Valley Cemetery.
