WANDA F. DRAKE passed away in Palm Desert, California on November 10, 2014. Wanda was born in Glendale, California to Fern Thompson Formoe and Axel S.Formoe on June 5, 1918. The family moved to Riverside when Wanda was in seventh grade. At Central Junior High School she met Robert Drake, who was to later become her husband. Wanda and Bob dated through high school and graduated from Poly in 1936. They married in 1940 and in 1942, the day before Bob left for Army basic training, their daughter Kathleen was born, soon followed by Barbara in 1943. When Bob returned from the war he began work at the Citrus Experiment Station as a plant pathologist, a job he held until his retirement. In 1955 a son, Douglas, joined the family. Wanda took pride in serving as a volunteer at Riverside Community Hospital and worked there until well into her 80's. She liked reading, playing bridge, antiquing and decorating, but most of all being with her grandchildren. Family was important to her and she loved nothing more than having them come for visits and everyone coming to her house for holidays. She was an only child, but when she married Bob she was accepted into his large family, and his sisters and brothers became hers. When Bob passed away in 1998 they had been married for 58 years. One of her many gifts was her generosity. She was caring and thoughtful and always there to help a family member or friend in need. Her strong independent spirit, which stayed with her to the end, has been passed on to her children. She is survived by her daughters Kathy (BJ) Bjork of Palm Desert; Barbara(Roy) Cavanaugh of Yuma Arizona; son Douglas (Susan) Drake of Chandler Arizona; sisters-in-law Barbara Drake and Elaine Drake and brother-in-law Glen Drake; grandchildren Darin Kelly, Brant Bjork, Megan Workman, Erika Kinkade, Alex Drake, and Chris Drake; great grandchildren, Josh, Alysssa and Kyle Segura, Jayden and Deagan Kinkade, Samantha Workman, and Swan and Brazil Bjork; great-great grandchild Analitzia Segura. Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 1 PM at Olivewood Cemetery in Riverside.
