1922 - 2017 Obituary Condolences

Wanda Copenhaver, a resident of Riverside, CA for the past 70 years, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Raincross Assisted Living, her home for the past 7 years.
Born Wanda Lee Harrell on August 3,1922 to Grace Ann Bond and Maxie Harrell, she was born on the family farm nine miles south of Blanchard in Dibble, Oklahoma.
After the death of her mother, she and her family, including her father, two older sisters Christine and Maxine and younger brother Kenneth, moved to Purcell, Oklahoma during her Freshman year of high school. There she became an active member of the school band and participated in the school's singing and athletic programs before her graduation in 1940. She continued her education at Oklahoma Central State University in the fall of 1940 where she met the captain of the football team and her soon to be college sweetheart James "Cope" Copenhaver, senior at Central State. They were married two years later on August 8, 1942 in Roswell, New Mexico where Cope was stationed as a pilot instructor for the Army Air Corps. They moved to Riverside, CA in 1947 where they raised their three children: Carla, Charee and Scott. Wanda worked in the student Records Department of the Riverside Unified School District for over 30 years. She was also very active in the First Christian Church of Riverside where she had been a member for the past 70 years.
Wanda was a very kind and generous person who had a smile and a kind word for everyone that she met. She enjoyed socializing at church, playing bridge with friends and dancing at the De Anza Dance with Cope. They shared 67 years of marriage together before Cope's passing in 2010.
Wanda's oldest daughter Carla preceded her in death on |uly 13, 2017. She is survived by her daughter Charee; her son Scott and their families. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at the First Christian Church of Riverside on Tuesday, August 8th at 10:30 am with a graveside service following at the Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the at alz.org Arlington Mortuary, Directors (800) 275-4648
