1925 - 2017

Age 92, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2017, in Riverside, California. Born September 13, 1925, in Oakland, California to Reuben Arthur and Lillis Ursula Harris Melander the oldest of 3 sons, Wayne, Vernon and Elliott and raised in Boise, Idaho. He was an excellent piano player with a beautiful tenor voice.
He enlisted in the United States Army and served in the 15th Army Air Corp. He served from Jan. 1943 to Dec. 10, 1945. He was a right waist gunner in B17 bombers flying from Fogia, Italy on raids on Nazis targets in Europe. After the war, He served 2.5 years in the Spanish American Mission for the LDS Church. He met a fellow missionary Maria Elizabeth Rico. Later to be the love of his life. They were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on June 6, 1951.
He earned his MS at BYU in Entomology. He was a retired teacher and taught jr. high math, science and Spanish in San Bernardino, California.
He loved his Savor Jesus Christ and his family. He is survived by his 6 children, Lorin, Dwight, Roy, David. Paul. and Angela Reynolds; 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and his brother, Elliott. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Lillis Melander, his sweet wife, Maria, and his brother Vernon.
The funeral will be Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 at the LDS Church, 5900 Grand Ave., Riverside, California. The Service is at 11 am. He will be interred in the Riverside National Cemetery. Arlington Mortuary, Directors (800) 275-4648
