Wilifred Patrick Ryan Obituary
WILIFRED PATRICK RYAN, 94, of Hemet, California died January 21, 2016 in Hemet, California. A man to remember! In Welton, Iowa Willie's story began on November 19, 1921 born to William and Stella (Kuehen) Ryan. He headed West with his first wife Marlis Schroeder, married October 30, 1944, and family from DeWitt, Iowa. Willie's legacy in Hemet Valley started when he became the owner and operator of the Hotel Vosburg in 1971. He was a very successful businessman who always put family first. After running the hotel for 14 years, he continued to own restaurants with son-in-law Tony until 2005. Notably, Ryan's Restaurant and Catering was honored as "Business of the Year" in 2000. He was extremely active in the community holding office in many clubs and affiliations: President of the San Jacinto Chamber of Commerce, San Jacinto Rotary Club, Ramona Pageant Association, and Eagle Athletic Club, also on the board at Valley Wide Foundation. He was awarded "Man of the Year" in 1984 and "Citizen of the Year" in 1998 by the SJ Chamber and received the "Book of Golden Deeds" from the Exchange Club in 2000. He is remembered as a coach for the Pony League baseball team "Exchange." He started the San Jacinto Chamber of Commerce Reverse Drawing Fundraiser in 1992 and it is now known as the Willie Ryan Reverse Drawing. He was also an active parishioner who helped build Our Lady of the Valley Church and Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Willie survived his first wife and was blessed by grace to fall into the arms of Jo-Ann Blake, second love of his life, married April 7, 2001. He lived out the rest of his life in such grace, ever playing cards and watching Dodger games, a loyal fan and season ticket holder for over 3 decades. He never missed a cocktail hour, celebrating with his one glass of whiskey. He will be missed by all who live on; wife Jo-Ann Blake Ryan of Hemet; son David (Sharon) of Santa Monica; daughters Debra (Royal) Kelly of Hemet, Diane (David) Reathaford of Hemet, Darla (Anthony) Directo of San Jacinto; step son James (Susan) Glitch of Cambria, CA; and brother Kenneth (Robin) of Studio City, CA.
