Willa Mae Ponder Obituary
WILLA MAE PONDER Born to parents Ed Mitchel; birthplace Texas and who's profession was a Rancher; Callie Polk housewife and birthplace was Oklahoma. I was born Willa Mae Mitchell on August 1, 1928 in Blythe, California. Anyone who has ever lived or visited Blythe knows that in August the weather is hot with little "if at all" humidity. School days: I was only 13 years of age when I attended Oakwood College, which is located in Huntsville, Alabama and during 1944 through 1947 also attended University Heights Junior High in Riverside, CA. In 1947, the month of August, I married Hamilton Ponder. The place was Yuma, Arizona. Later years after children I resumed my education by completing certifications in the medical field and retired as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) from San Jose Hospital in 1980 and moved to Garden Valley, California with my two daughters Carol and Tamatha. Those who knew me can attest that I loved to travel in which, I later moved to Sacramento, California where my health care career ended as a personal healthcare companion and caregiver. In the early 1990's I moved to Denver, Colorado and lived with Tamatha's family then with Tracy's. My final travels led me to La Grande, Oregon and later Cheyenne, Wyoming with Carol's family. All of my children are all thriving and yes there were nine beautiful babies, starting with the eldest Ronnie, Michael, Carol, Joyce, Edgar, Patricia, Steven, Tracy, and the youngest Tamatha. Throughout the years my children blessed me with 21 grandchildren and 15 great -grandchildren. Many of whom I had the pleasure of knowing personally. On August 16th, 2013 at the age of 85, I lived to see and spend time with six of my nine children. Mother was raised and a practicing Seventh Day Adventist. Our mother's final resting place was in Cheyenne, Wyoming on November 2nd, 2013 @ 1:46pm in the home of her daughter Carol Balsiger. Willa Mae was interred at Bel-El cemetery, Cheyenne, Wyoming on November 6th, 2013.
