William H. McGaugh Obituary
WILLIAM H. MCGAUGH, born 10/6/21; died peacefully 1/19/14. Bill was born and raised in Arizona. He graduated from Nogales High School and attended Arizona State University and University of Redlands. His college years were interrupted by the sudden death of his father when he assumed responsibility for his widowed mother and 3 younger siblings. During World War II, he served as a warrant officer at Camp Hahn in Riverside. After the war Bill went into business. He owned paint stores, was Western Divisional Sales Manager for Celanese Coatings Corporation, and finished his business career as a real estate broker. Bill was always extremely active in his community. He served as President of the Riverside Humane Society, had been active in Wesley United Methodist Church, and at the time of his death was on the board of the Riverside Optimist Club, where he had been actively philanthropic for decades. He and his wife also provided legacies to The Salvation Army, Riverside City College, and The Optimist Youth Home. Bill was a prize winning sport fisherman who enjoyed a coastal vacation retreat in Mexico for many years, and later a vacation home in La Quinta. He was an avid reader, still reading at least a book a week in his 90s. He traveled extensively and had visited most of Canada and Mexico, much of Europe, Israel, New Zealand, Australia, Tasmania, Hong Kong, China, the Caribbean, Central America, and every state in the U.S. Bill was married to his wife Beverly, who pre-deceased him in 2011, for 68 years. He is survived by his sister, Daphne; his brother, Jim; his daughters Marsha Lewis and Bonnie Rule; his sons-in-law Andy Lewis and Rick Rule; his two grandsons and their wives; two great grandsons and a great granddaughter to be born this July, as well as his loyal caregiver of many years, Kathy, and his newest additional caregiver, Felicitaz. In addition he is survived by a substantial extended family, and a large group of friends all over the world with whom he kept in constant communication via email. Bill will be missed for his wit, his kindness and his generosity to the Riverside community. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Riverside Optimist Youth Club, Inc. with the notation "Bill McGaugh Scholarship Fund".
