William Hugh Alexander Obituary
WILLIAM HUGH ALEXANDER William Hugh Alexander was born to Bruce and Helen Alexander on February 4, 1945 in St. Louis, MO. He was raised in Riverside along with his older brothers Bruce and David, and excelled as a swimmer at Riverside Poly High School graduating in 1962. He attended San Diego State University and launched a successful career in sales for 14 years at IBM after college. Bill had two children, Michele and Kevin, from his first marriage. In 1972, he married Beverly, his devoted wife of 40 years, and gained two more daughters, Cosette and Cheryl. Bill was an entrepreneur at heart and a consummate optimist. Among many ventures, he co-founded 800-Flowers in the early 1980's, and served as a top executive at software firms in Dallas and outside Washington, D.C. over 20 years. Bill had a passion for renovating all things old, including their home and wooden boats. He was a true Renaissance man. In 2003, Bill and Beverly returned to Riverside to retire, spend more time with friends and their seven grandchildren, and focus on Bill's last project - their home in Canyon Crest. He died unexpectedly of heart complications on Jan. 19, 2013. He is loved by many and missed by everyone who knew him. A casual gathering for friends and family will be held at their home on February 2 to celebrate Bill's life. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to The Salvation Army.
