William J. (Bill) Smith Obituary
WILLIAM J. (BILL) SMITH of Riverside, CA and formerly of Corona, CA, Entered Into Eternal Rest at home on Thursday, March 26, 2015. The son of the late William and Catherine (McCarthy) Smith, Bill was born and raised in Bronx, NY, where he met and married his wife of 54 years, Ellen (Connolly). Bill was a graduate of Bishop Dubois High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Pace University. Bill raised his family in New Jersey and Connecticut before relocating to Ohio while working for Penn Central Corporation as a tax director. He also held positions in Nursing Home Administration before retiring with Ellen to California in 2000. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his daughter Donna DeFelice and husband Jerry, of Southington, CT; his son Bill and wife Jenine of Lake Forest, CA; his daughter Laura Richards and husband Rob of Chillicothe, OH; grandchildren Nicholas DeFelice and wife Emily, and Liam and Melissa Smith; great granddaughter Olivia Jane DeFelice; brother and sister-in-law Tom and Clare Connolly and their children Carolyn Grillo and husband Joe, Matthew and Christopher Connolly and grand-nieces Avery and Mary Caroline well as McCarthy cousins, many dear friends, church associates and Brother Knights. Bill was Communicant of St Mary Magdelene Church, Corona where he was a very active member of the church community including head of the Peace and Justice Committee, Corona Norco Interfaith Association past president, Lecturer, Eucharistic Minister and Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Corona Council #3687. Bill was recognized by the San Bernardino diocese with the Guadalupe award for those whose exemplary leadership has positively impacted the broader community. His spirit, activism and compassion for others was far reaching and the impact he has had on others will be his legacy. A Mass Of The Resurrection will be held Wednesday, April 1 at 11a.m. St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 8540 Weirick Rd., Corona CA 92883. In lieu of flowers, it was Bill's specific request that any memorial contributions be made to the Knights of Columbus, Corona Council #3687 P.O. Box 733 Corona CA 92878-0733.
